Computation of an efficient and robust estimator in a semiparametric mixture model

In this article, we propose an efficient and robust estimation for the semiparametric mixture model that is a mixture of unknown location-shifted symmetric distributions. Our estimation is derived by minimizing the profile Hellinger distance (MPHD) between the model and a nonparametric density estimate. We propose a simple and efficient algorithm to find the proposed MPHD estimation. Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to examine the finite sample performance of the proposed procedure and to compare it with other existing methods. Based on our empirical studies, the newly proposed procedure works very competitively compared to the existing methods for normal component cases and much better for non-normal component cases. More importantly, the proposed procedure is robust when the data are contaminated with outlying observations. A real data application is also provided to illustrate the proposed estimation procedure.

孔子的思想体系建立在他对个人与自然、个人与社会、个人与个人三种关系的理解之上。"远"作为这三种关系的一种描述方式,在孔子思想中发挥着不可忽视的作用。学界对《论语》中"远"关注较少,因而以"远"为线索梳理孔子思想不仅饶有趣味而且具有相当的理论意义。     

Residential mobility and the spatial dispersion of personal networks: Effects on social support

Using a representative national sample of personal networks, this article explores how the spatial dispersion of networks, residential mobility and social support are linked. Three issues will be addressed here. Firstly, how is the spatial dispersion of personal networks related to individuals’ social characteristics, network composition and residential mobility? Secondly, how do the spatial dispersion of networks, residential mobility and their combined effect influence the number and (thirdly) the structure of emotional support ties? Results showed that the extent of the support was affected neither by the geographical distribution of the networks nor by residential mobility. Living far from one's birthplace, however, exerted two distinct, and opposite effects on the support network structure. On the one hand, mobility led to high spatial dispersion of personal contacts, which in turn favored a sparsely knit network centered around the mobile individual. On the other hand, by controlling for the effect of distance between the contacts, we found that individuals that cited long-distance ties tended to be part of more transitive support networks than those that cited local ties. We interpreted the latter effect as evidence that transitive ties may survive greater spatial distances than intransitive ones. These findings are discussed in view of spatial mobility and social network research.     

A Hellinger distance approach to MCMC diagnostics

Bayesian analysis often requires the researcher to employ Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques to draw samples from a posterior distribution which in turn is used to make inferences. Currently, several approaches to determine convergence of the chain as well as sensitivities of the resulting inferences have been developed. This work develops a Hellinger distance approach to MCMC diagnostics. An approximation to the Hellinger distance between two distributions f and g based on sampling is introduced. This approximation is studied via simulation to determine the accuracy. A criterion for using this Hellinger distance for determining chain convergence is proposed as well as a criterion for sensitivity studies. These criteria are illustrated using a dataset concerning the Anguilla australis, an eel native to New Zealand.

西方文化和文论中的Image——从比较文化和比较文论的角度看Image(形象/意象/图像)(之一)

Image(形象/图像/意象)是全球化时代文化对话和美学对话中的一个重要主题.从比较文化的角度来看,其在西方主要与三个方面相关:由主客互动而来的影像,主体心理运行的意象,由主体外化而成的艺术形象.这三个方面为image在中国的三种不同译法奠定了基础.     

中美大学生权力距离对比研究

在跨文化研究理论中，Hofstede提出的民族文化五维度是被广为接受的研究成果。根据权力距离维度理论，权力距离可以用权力距离指数来显示，他认为中国的权力距离指数高于美国。随着中国经济环境的变化和对外开放进程的加快，文化也会不断发展和变化。因此，在新的环境下研究中美权力距离差异具有现实意义。为了对比当下中美大学生的权力距离感知，在中美两所大学发放调查问卷，分别考察了两组学生对于教师、长者和家长所拥有权力的态度，并用SPSS对调查数据进行分析。结果发现，对于教师和长者，中国学生的权力距离显著高于美国学生，但是对于家长，两国学生并未表现出明显差异，这与Hofstede的研究结果不符。

学生干部在高校学生管理中扮演着重要的角色,学生干部既是学生的一部分又是学生中的管理者,身份特殊且重要。因此,提升高校学生干部管理水平,构建完善的学生干部管理体系十分必要。注重从心理文化的角度,即采用内在的激励方式对学生干部管理工作进行激励已成为许多高校管理者的共识,而心理契约作为一个心理文化指导下的新的管理理念便担此重任,发挥着其在学生干部管理体系建设中的重要作用。在本文中,笔者以激发学生干部工作热情及工作积极性为目的,侧重从心理契约的角度对高校学生干部管理现状及如何进一步构建学生干部管理体系进行探讨。
